The Questions We’re Asked Most, and Our Honest Answers

When it comes to aesthetic care, there really are no silly questions.

We’re asked many of the same things each week, during consultations, through our DMs and in conversations at the clinic. Questions about looking natural, what might be appropriate, what to expect and whether now is the right time to begin.

So, we wanted to answer some of them properly, all in one place.

Before we begin, you won’t find specific prescription-only treatment names or associated prices in this article. That isn’t us being deliberately vague. Australian advertising rules place clear restrictions on how treatments involving prescription-only medicines can be discussed publicly.

It also happens to support the way we believe aesthetic care should work: consultation first, recommendations second.

Will I look overdone?

This is probably the question we’re asked most.

Most people don’t come to us wanting to look dramatically different. They want to look like themselves, perhaps a little fresher, less tired or more like the person they still feel like on the inside.

Natural-looking results begin with a considered treatment plan. That means looking at your face as a whole, understanding what is bothering you and being honest about what may or may not be appropriate.

Sometimes the right approach is to start gradually. Sometimes it is to leave an area alone. Knowing when not to treat is just as important as knowing when treatment may help.

Our aim is never to change what makes you look like you. It is to help you make an informed decision about what feels right for you.

How do you decide what I actually need?

We don’t begin by deciding what you need. We begin by listening.

We’ll talk about what has brought you in, what you have noticed and how you would like to feel. We then consider your facial features, skin, medical history, previous treatments, expectations and any concerns you may have.

From there, we can explain what options may be suitable, what each approach involves and whether treatment is appropriate at all.

We aren’t going to talk you through everything on a treatment menu or recommend something simply because it is available. Our role is to help you understand what is genuinely relevant to you.

You may leave with a treatment plan. You may leave with a more gradual approach. You may simply leave with better information and time to think.

All three are perfectly valid outcomes.

Does it hurt?

Everyone experiences treatment differently, so we will never pretend there is one answer that applies to everyone.

Some treatments may feel briefly uncomfortable, while others are barely noticeable. Depending on the treatment, appropriate comfort measures may be used, and we will explain what you can expect before anything begins.

If you are nervous, sensitive or have had an uncomfortable experience elsewhere, please tell us. There is no need to be brave or pretend you aren’t worried. We would always rather know so we can support you properly.

How long until I see results, and how long do they last?

The honest answer is that it depends.

Different treatments work in different ways. Some changes may become noticeable relatively quickly, while others take time to develop or settle. How long results last can also vary depending on the treatment, the area being addressed and how your individual body responds.

Rather than giving you a beautifully neat timeframe that may have very little to do with you, we will explain what is realistic for your individual plan during your consultation.

We will also talk you through aftercare, when you might expect to notice changes and whether any follow-up may be appropriate.

Am I too young or too old to start?

Age on its own doesn’t determine whether aesthetic treatment is appropriate.

A better question is: what is concerning you, and is there a suitable way to address it?

Some people come to us because they are curious and want to understand their options. Others have been thinking about aesthetic care for years but have only just felt ready to begin the conversation.

Your health, facial features, skin, goals, expectations and what you feel comfortable with all matter. Your age is only one part of the picture.

There is also no right age to start. You don’t need to begin treatment simply because people around you are doing it, and you haven’t left it too late because you didn’t start earlier.

What if I don’t know what to book?

That is completely normal.

You don’t need to know the terminology, choose a treatment or arrive having already worked out what you need. In fact, we would prefer that you didn’t select something simply because it is trending online or looked good on somebody else.

Book a consultation and tell us what you have noticed, what has been bothering you or what you would simply like to understand better.

Working out whether treatment is appropriate, and what that may look like for you, is part of our job.

Will you tell me if I don’t need anything?

Yes.

We believe good aesthetic care includes being able to say no, recommend less or suggest that you take some time before making a decision.

A consultation is not about finding something to treat. It is about understanding your concerns and giving you honest, professional advice.

If we don’t believe a treatment is suitable, if your expectations cannot realistically be met or if we think another approach would be more appropriate, we will tell you.

Your trust matters more to us than talking you into an appointment.

Why don’t you put your prices on the website?

It is a fair question, and there are two reasons.

The first is legal. Many aesthetic treatments involve prescription-only medicines, and Australian therapeutic goods advertising rules restrict how those medicines can be promoted to the public. This includes associated price information.

These rules exist because decisions involving prescription medicines should be made between an individual and an appropriately qualified health practitioner, following a proper assessment. They should not be marketed in the same way as an ordinary retail product.

The second reason is that a public price list would not necessarily tell you what your own treatment plan might cost.

Every person is different. Recommendations depend on your concerns, assessment, suitability and the approach agreed upon with your practitioner. A headline price may look straightforward, but it rarely tells the full story.

We would rather give you accurate information than a number with half the context missing.

Following your consultation, we will explain any recommendations and the associated costs before you decide whether you would like to proceed. There is no expectation that you must book treatment simply because you came in to talk.

For clients interested in predictable, ongoing costs for services such as LED therapy, we can also explain our membership options during your visit.

Can I just come in for a conversation?

Absolutely.

A consultation is not a commitment to treatment. It is time to ask questions, talk through what has brought you in and receive professional advice about what may or may not be appropriate.

You are allowed to be curious.

You are allowed to take your time.

And you are always allowed to decide that now is not the right time.

That is what considered aesthetic care should feel like.

This article provides general information only and is not medical advice. It does not replace an individual consultation. Any treatment recommendation at Third Space Aesthetics is made following an assessment with a suitably qualified health practitioner and is subject to individual suitability.
