The Science of Slowing Down: Why Medical-Grade LED Is the Foundation of Our Skin Membership

When we opened Third Space Aesthetics on the Sunshine Coast, we weren’t trying to build another injectables clinic. We wanted to build the clinic we wished existed for ourselves.

Between us, our team brings decades of hands-on experience across fitness, wellness and aesthetics, and that background changes how you see skin health. Our clients aren’t chasing twenty. They want to look well. Refreshed. Like themselves, just resting easy in their own skin. That distinction shaped everything about how we built this clinic, starting with the thing most people skip past: LED.

Why We Built the Membership Around LED First

Our team kept coming back to the same question when we were building this place: what’s the foundation everyone actually needs, regardless of what treatment they eventually choose?

The answer was light therapy, done properly.

Coming from a wellness background, we’d seen membership models work beautifully for gyms and studios — low, steady weekly commitment building real long-term habits and results. Nobody had really applied that thinking to aesthetic skincare. Most clinics sell one-off treatments. We wanted to build something people could return to weekly, the way you’d show up to a Pilates class or a gym session, because consistency is where skin health actually happens.

So we built our whole membership around it. LED and skin needling became the foundation, not the upsell.

Medical-Grade LED vs. Your At-Home Device

We get asked this a lot, and it’s a fair question if you already own an LED mask at home: what’s actually different?

It comes down to power and precision. At-home devices are designed to be safe for unsupervised, everyday use, which means the light intensity and wavelengths are intentionally lower. Medical-grade LED delivers therapeutic wavelengths at a strength and dose that simply isn’t available outside a clinical setting, alongside professional protocols tailored to what your skin needs on any given visit.

We’re not here to talk down at-home devices. They’re a nice addition to a home routine. But if you’re wanting to see meaningful change, medical-grade LED under professional guidance is a different category of tool altogether.

Behind the scenes, our MediLUX device runs four calibrated protocols, and we choose (or combine) them based on what your skin’s doing that week, not what everyone else in the room is having. Congestion and breakouts get the blue light protocol. Redness and sensitivity get green. Collagen support and fine lines get red combined with near-infrared. Dullness and uneven tone get yellow. It’s the difference between switching a device on and actually being treated.

What Happens in an LED Light Therapy Session

Every LED visit runs around thirty minutes in total — we call it the mini facial. It opens with a double cleanse and hydration prep, moves into twenty minutes under the light itself, and finishes with Ultra Zinc, our go-to for sun protection here on the Sunshine Coast where UV is no joke.

It’s not just a light treatment. It’s a proper, unhurried reset, and that’s deliberate.

How Often Should You Be Having LED?

Consistency is what makes the difference with light therapy, much like training or movement. We generally recommend a regular weekly rhythm to start, which is exactly why we built it into a membership rather than selling single sessions. It also happens to be one of the more genuinely restorative thirty minutes you can give yourself in a week. Clients regularly tell us the twenty to thirty minutes lying down, away from phones and noise, does as much for how they feel that day as anything else on the schedule. We’d never make a specific health claim about it — we’re an aesthetics clinic, not a medical practice for that — but if you’ve ever finished a session feeling lighter and calmer, you already know what we mean.

The exact rhythm depends on what you’re focused on. Weekly is the general minimum, and that’s what most of our members settle into. If congestion is the priority, we’ll often step that up to twice a week for the first six to eight visits before easing back to a maintenance pace. Collagen and ageing-focused protocols typically run over eight to ten sessions to see the shift properly bed in.

What’s Included, and What It Costs

Our skin membership is $12.95 a week and includes weekly LED with the full mini facial described above. If you want to add skin needling into your routine, that steps up to $34.95 a week.

We built it this way on purpose. Skincare that actually works shouldn’t be reserved for occasional splurges. We wanted a price point where showing up every week is simply part of your routine, not a treat you talk yourself out of.

What’s Coming Next

We’re always researching what’s next for the clinic, and we’ve recently welcomed an advanced new skin treatment into Third Space Aesthetics, one that pairs naturally occurring skin-supportive ingredients with a nurse-led approach. We’ll be sharing more in the weeks ahead. If you’re curious now, that’s exactly what a consultation with our nurse is for.

We also see LED as the foundation for what’s coming. As we introduce further treatments to the clinic, our belief is that skin health starts with the basics done consistently well, not with skipping straight to more intensive options.

Curious Whether This Is Right for You?

Whether you’re dealing with ageing concerns, fine lines, or you’re simply curious about LED, skin needling, or membership, that’s a conversation worth having with our nurse, not a guessing game.

We’re based on the Sunshine Coast, and we built Third Space Aesthetics to be the clinic we’d want to walk into ourselves. Come and see what that looks like.
